Manic Mommies Take Zumba lesson

Salsa Dancing makes its way into the gym. On the manic mommies website I found a reference to Zumba a new class to replace body pump, boxercise and all the other ways to dress up exercise.

This morning I took Zumba which is a combination of dances: mambo, salsa, bellydancing. What I lacked in coordination I made up for with a cute workout outfit! After all, if you are going to join the gym again, you have to go to Dick's Sporting Goods to get some new sneakers and cute little sports tops that cost a ridiculous $24 each!

Manic Mommies

Zumba has its own website www.zumba.com where you can check out the moves, buy the zumbawear and train as a licenced instructor.

Salsa Smells

When researching the previous post about the salsa basic step video I had to visit the addicted2salsa.com website. Couldn't resist linking to this article.

Now, I know this is one of those weird subjects, but I thought I'd share my experience at the club. Now, I am assuming everyone wears colonge (eau de toilette) - and if you haven't - you should. We all dance, and we all sweat like crazy - especially in a very packed club. Not many girls would like to dance with a highly sweaty, highly smelly (not good smelly) type of guy - especially if you are a beginner. Sorry, its the truth... So you might as well make the experience for your follow as pleasant as possible. So you should try and smell good for as most of the night as you can. However, I do a little extra other than wearing the regular Polo (Ralph Lauren) and on special occasions, Black (Kenneth Cole) colonge which some may have not thought of. I also use body spray. My preferrence is AXE body spray just because it goes on dry, and I like the smell of it - but back to the point. The main reason why I like body spray is because it goes directly on the skin (as opposed to colonge) and its less alcoholic which means it lasts longer. (Alcohol evaporates faster). Therefore, the more I dance (and sweat) the more fragarance comes out - especially if I dance bachata (a very close-up dance). That way I can at least not smelling badly when 11th hour chimes at the club. Again, a little goes a long way.

HE'S an egotistical, serial womanising love rat - at least that's what we've been led to believe. So it was with some trepidation that I went on a date with Strictly Come Dancing's quick-stepping Casanova Brendan Cole. We arrange to meet for lunch at the posh Oxo Tower restaurant overlooking the Thames. Advertisement Falk AdSolution Dressed in my new swirly frock and killer heels, I order

Salsa for Weight Loss

Interesting article on salsa for weight loss another benefit to a salsa dance life. Did you know in a one hour class you could burn 400-700 calories which is the same amount as a spinning class. I know which I prefer.

In physical exercise, aerobic exercise is literally means "withoxygen", and refers to the use of oxygen in muscles' energy-generatingprocess. Aerobic exercise, which is also referred to as Cardio, includes any type of exercise, typically those performed at moderatelevels of intensity for extended periods of time, that maintains anincreased heart rate. In such exercise, oxygen is used to "burn" fatsand glucose.

"But why do people think they have to get on a tredmill or bike at thegym to do their Cardio?" says Rafael Moret,CSCS, President of Results 4Sure Personal Training. "After a while walking on the treadmill orriding the bike at the gym is boring, and we ....

With Strictly Come Dancing back on UK TV ...

With Strictly Come Dancing back on UK TV the role of judges and audience involvement in competitions comes to mind again. It is always interesting to see the judges struggle with the need to be popular. Some manage to be judges first better than others.

Today I found an article from 2004 which echo this and look in general at What Dance Competitions should be all about and the preparation involved ...

Competitions should really be about recognition. From the competitor's perspective, the main reason to enter a competition is to get recognition for the effort that goes into training. Some people do not know what it takes to prepare for a competition.

First a choreography...

Salsa dancing enthusiast shows her sexy moves at the festival.

According to the El Paso Times, Salsa dancing enthusiast Laura Madrid, 23, looks forward to showing off her sexy moves at her local festival.

The festival combines Salsa making and Salsa Dancing. Putting Food and Dancing in the same festival seems a very healthy alternative to some festivals. As Laura puts it "I love salsa dancing ... I have a lot more energy, and it helps me keep a small waistline and because you dance with a partner, it is more romantic."

"Salsa Talks" Book wins top book awards

Salsa Talks a book documenting the salsa world and interviews with salsa's superstars wins best coffee table book and best overall book.

Mary Kents book seems to have hit a hot spot with the judges and the public if the reviews on Amazon are to be believed.

Salsa Talks: A Musical Heritage Uncovered As one of the reviewers who gave the book five stars said

I saw this book for the first time on the living room table of a friend's house. I couldn't wait to get my own copy. If you've ever danced salsa, listened to it, or studied its origins, you'll want to own your own copy, too. The book delivers portraits of over 40 outstanding people who were instrumental in making salsa what it is today. Musicians, promoters, managers, writers and others are featured in interviews, very high quality photographs and essays. Some have passed away, others no longer perform. So it is this work that keeps the memory of them alive. The publication is very timely as salsa today is at a crossroads. The creation of this permanent record of salsa's history will enable those who follow the great artists of the 70's and 80's to maintain a connection to the culture. This book is also an excellent historical resource with articles from writers, music historians and musicologists. Very Highly Recommended

History of Salsa

History of Salsa.

Salsa is not easily defined. Who invented salsa? The Cubans, Puerto Ricans? Salsa is a distillation of many Latin and Afro-Caribbean dances. Each played a large part in its evolution.

Salsa is similar to Mambo in that both have a pattern of six steps danced over eight counts of music. The dances share many of the same moves. In Salsa, turns have become an important feature, so the overall look and feel are quite different form those of Mambo. Mambo moves generally forward and backward, whereas, Salsa has more of a side to side feel.

It is not only Cuban; nevertheless we must give credit to Cuba for ...
